In 2004, our executives took the risk of starting their own company and purchased an existing property in Durham, NC. After renovations, MJM Group’s perseverance led to success. The exceptional team, service, and care allowed this hotel to compete with other nearby properties. MJM hedged their bets on various pieces of land which ultimately paid off for MJM and its investors. This valuable experience taught the team the essentials of commercial real estate, as well as the importance of partnering with established hotel brands.
Despite trying times for the hospitality industry during the recession, MJM Group opened a second hotel, the award winning Courtyard by Marriott in Raleigh, NC in 2010. Simultaneously, the forward, visionary thinkers of MJM Group took land under contract in Charlotte, NC, establishing their pipeline and creating a greater presence. In 2014, MJM opened Gateway Terrace, a mixed-use site that consisted of multiple retail buildings on a very tight site, in Durham, NC. The complicated site zoning and site planning of Gateway Terrace paid off, as it was 100% leased out before opening.
The success didn’t stop there. The company has since built the award-winning Charlotte Airport Residence Inn and Fairfield Inn & Suites, which opened in December of 2016. In 2018 and 2019, the Steele Creek Residence Inn and the award-winning Northlake Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott in Charlotte, NC opened for business. MJM Group was awarded the 2018 Developer of the Year Award from Marriott for the Northlake property.
